This is my favorite homemade salad dressing. I make a big batch and keep it in the refrigerator for whenever the salad urge strikes. It will keep for at least 2 weeks, but probably for longer (I’ve never not eaten it within that time period so I’m not sure).
This simple dressing is a little sweet, a little sharp—great with mixed greens or a heartier salad with chunks of cold chicken and crumbled bacon for holiday meals like Easter or Thanksgiving.
The kids like to use it as a dip for apple and cucumber slices. It is everything you’ve been looking for in a homemade dressing.
This Maple Mustard Salad Dressing Is:
- The perfect balance of sweet maple syrup and tangy Dijon mustard
- Zesty, piquant, and bright made from basic pantry staples
- Ready in 2 minutes
- Make-ahead friendly—shake up in a Mason jar and keep in the fridge
- Vegan and gluten-free, made with whole foods—no additives or preservatives
- Always a crowd favorite and so much better (and less expensive) than store-bought dressings
Having recipes like this simple vinaigrette in your arsenal makes dinner time so much easier!

Ingredients In Maple Mustard Dressing
Gather these simple ingredients to make one of our favorite salad dressings:
- Extra virgin olive oil: Olive oil is best flavorwise, you can substitute another vegetable oil like avocado oil but it won’t be as tasty.
- Apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar or red wine vinegar. I don’t recommend balsamic vinegar.
- Maple syrup: Only use pure maple syrup not the imitation stuff. It should say, “grade A” or “grade B” on the bottle.
- Lemon juice: Adds a floral brightness that is different from the acidity of vinegar.
- Dijon mustard: Smooth, creamy, and zesty. You can also use whole grain mustard if you’d like.
- Kosher salt: (Not pictured) I always use Morton’s kosher salt, unless otherwise noted.
- Black pepper: Freshly ground black pepper only please.

This Maple Dijon Salad Dressing Is Super Simple
If you like to make your own dressings, this one could not be easier. There’s no chopping, no whisking, no dirty mixing bowls to clean up.

Just add all the ingredients to a Mason jar or airtight container with a tight-fitting lid. Screw the lid on tight and shake up! Full list of ingredients and instructions in the recipe card below.

Maple Mustard Salad Dressing
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Cover tightly and shake until thoroughly combined. Taste and add more salt or pepper as needed. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Dressing will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
- Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice is ideal, but you can use bottled lemon juice in a pinch.
- Tasting: Always taste the dressing with a piece of lettuce and adjust the flavors as needed. You might want to add more maple syrup for sweetness, lemon juice for tanginess, or mustard for a more pronounced mustard flavor.
- Dip: Besides using the dressing to make salad, serve it as a dip for vegetables, crackers, or bread.
- Honey Mustard: Substitute the Dijon mustard with honey mustard for a sweeter dressing.
